With increasing urbanization in the country, the amount of plastic waste which is being generated on daily basis has reached alarming volumes. In order to address this problem, EcoAd is focused on drastically reducing the dependence on plastic carry bags by providing an eco-friendly and cost competitive alternative. We subsidize the price of paper bags to as low as half the cost of a plastic bag, by selling advertising spaces on them. EcoAd employs women from Bottom of Pyramid (BoP) communities to make handmade and recycled paper bags. Employing women ensures that earnings from bag making are spent on the household’s food, education and health, improving their lives. Our aim is to make Indian cities free of plastic carry bags and create sustainable employment for women at BoP, using recycled paper-bags and advertising.
Our bags are handmade, and made from recyclable materials; hence they are also eco friendly. Manufactured through a well-engineered process, they can carry about 10 kilograms and last up-to 6 months. The price of the bags is subsidized through advertising. We also provide advertising space on our paper bags for different companies or social causes.
